Female boxer grabs 11th Olympic slot for Vietnam

Nguyen Thi Tam has become the 11th Vietnamese athlete to qualify for Olympics Tokyo after accumulating enough competition points.

Tam amassed 190 points from tournaments organized by World Boxing Federation, enough for her to win a slot at this year’s Olympics. The 27-year-old also benefited from North Korea’s withdrawal from the event, which means the world’s number one female boxer Park Mi Choi won’t be able to compete, thereby leaving a vacant spot.
