Golfers to compete for national team SEA Games slots

Vietnamese golfers are set to compete in selection tournaments for slots on the national team to represent Vietnam at SEA Games 31.

From Jan. 4 to 7, 2022, 40 golfers will take part in a four-round tournament at Heron Lake golf course in the northern Vinh Phuc Province. Only eight men and six women will be chosen for the training period.

During the training period, there will be experts and supervisors who support and keep track of each golfer. They will have to follow the training plan and make weekly reports to the coaching board.

After this period, the coaching board would choose five male and four female golfers that have the best form for the official squad list. There will also be two backup golfers.

Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) is in charge of all selection activities, coaching and managing the national team at SEA Games 31.

The pre-qualification process ended in October. In order to be selected, golfers must achieve a handicap of 3.0 for men and 7.0 for women on the national golf system Vhandicap.

Through the process, VGA picked 29 men and 11 women, most of them under 22, for the next selection round in January.

All SEA Games 31 matches will take place at Heron Lakes.

At the last SEA Games in 2019, Vietnam came to the Philippines to accumulate more experience. This time, the team will try to improve their results as they will get to play on their home ground.

SEA Games 31 will take place in Vietnam from May 12 to 23, 2022, featuring 40 sports with 536 events, mainly those present at the Olympics.
