(BGO) – Vietnam national badminton team (VNBT) started practicing at the provincial Sports Competition Hall in the Southern urban area of Bac Giang city, Bac Giang province from March 21
After arriving at the city on late March 20, the team had first practice in the next morning. The team consists of 10 male and 10 female players who are outstanding faces with many high achievements in domestic tourneys.

There are four members from Bac Giang province, including Pham Van Hai (born in 2001), Than Van Anh (born in 2003), Tran Thi Phuong Thuy (born in 2000) and Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan (born in 2002).

They are first ever summoned to national team for the upcoming SEA Games. Previously, the athletes pocketed several medals domestically.

Typically, athlete Pham Van Hai and Than Thi Van Anh won gold medals in mixed doubles event at 2021 National Badminton Championships held in Bac Giang and 2021 National Badminton Championships for Excellent Players held in Hue.

Meanwhile, Tran Thi Phuong Thuy bagged silver in women’s singles event at 2020 National Badminton Championships and gold at 2021 National Badminton Championships for Excellent Players.

To ensure the training quality and enhance competition technique, six coaches including one from Indonesia accompany the team to guide, instruct and train the athletes who participate in morning and afternoon training sessions every day (each lasts about three hours).

During the training period at the provincial Sports Competition Hall till May 16, 2022, the athletes are divided into groups, couples so as to deeply focus on specific technique and strategy.
Vice Director of the provincial Sports Competition Hall Chu Viet Bac said four courts are equipped with 48 bulb lighting system together with competition carpet.

As schedule, the opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games will take place in the evening of May 12, 2022 at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi city. Badminton event will be competed from May 16 – 22, 2022 at the Bac Giang provincial Sports Competition Hall with the participation of 127 players from eight countries of Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippine, Lao, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam.
