(BGO) – The quarterfinal matches in badminton individual of the ongoing 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) took place on May 20 morning at Bac Giang provincial Gymnasium. Vietnam badminton team won two tickets to the next round.
The quarterfinals saw the competition among athletes from Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam (duo Do Tuan Duc and Pham Nhu Thao, duo Do Tuan Duc and Pham Hong Nam and Nguyen Tien Minh).

At mix doubles’ event, Vietnamese duo faced No.3 seed of the event from Malaysia Adnan Maulana and Mychelle Crhystine Bandaso. The host players were defeated by the rival with difference ratio 9-21 and 10-21 then stopped at quaterfinal.

No.1 male player of Vietnam badminton Nguyen Tien Minh competed against No.4 athlete of team event Phetpradab Khosit from Thailand at men’s singles match. With skill and experience, Vietnamese veteran outmatched the rival 17-1 right in the first game. Then, Thailand athlete gave up and Tien Minh entered the semifinal.

At men’s doubles match, Do Tuan Duc and Pham Hong Nam seemed to overwhelm the Pilipino duo Christian Bernardo and Paul John Pantig to win quick victory 21-9. The spectator eyed fierce shots in second games because the host was surpassed several times then regained the balance and overall triumph with close score 21-17.
The semifinal matches in badminton individual of SEA Games 31 are scheduled on May 21 at Bac Giang provincial Gymnasium, starting at 1 pm.
