32nd SEA Games: Historic gold for Vietnam in mixed doubles table tennis

Dinh Anh Hoang and Tran Mai Ngoc obtained the historic gold medal for Vietnam in the mixed doubles event of table tennis at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Cambodia on May 14.

The pair made the milestone after winning 15 - 12 over Clarance Zhe Yu Chew and Jian Zeng of Singapore.

Dinh Anh Hoang and Tran Mai Ngoc won the gold medal in the mixed doubles event of table tennis at the 32nd SEA Games on May 14.

This is the first gold for Vietnam in this category at a SEA Games in 24 years. The previous belonged to Vu Manh Cuong and Ngo Thu Thuy at the SEA Games 1999.

The same day, Vietnam also grabbed a gold medal in the 12-seater mixed event of traditional boat racing, in which the team had to compete with strong rivals from Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand, and the Philippines.

In the final round’s first leg, the Vietnamese team took the lead when finishing the race in 2 minutes and 12.668 seconds, followed by Myanmar with 2 minutes and 14.462 seconds. In the second leg, they ranked second with 2 minutes and 13.824 seconds after Myanmar with 2 minutes and 12.654 seconds.

Scoring an aggregate result of 4 minutes and 26.492 seconds, Vietnam pocketed the gold medal. Meanwhile, the silver and bronze medals went to Myanmar and host Cambodia, respectively.

On May 13, Vietnamese athletes also won a gold medal in the women’s three-seater event of traditional boat racing with a result of 2 minutes and 49.560 seconds.

Meanwhile, boxers Bui Phuoc Tung and Ha Thi Linh brought home gold medals in the men’s 71kg and the women’s 63kg events. More golds also came to Vietnam in the Ju No Kata and Kime No Kata events of Judo, and the men’s standard single event of Xiangqi (a type of Chinese chess) on May 13.

(BGO)- On May 8 afternoon, female track and field athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh from Bac Giang province competed in women’s 5,000m event at SEA Games 32. The golden girl of Vietnam’s track and field pocketed a gold medal with a record of 17 minutes and 0.28 seconds. Her teammate Pham Thi Hong Le bagged a silver medal.

The Vietnamese U22 men’s football team have booked their place in the semi-finals of the 32nd SEA Games men’s football event after edging out Malaysia 2-1 in their third Group B match on May 8 evening.
 
SEA Games 32: Vietnam win 15 more golds, rising to second position in medal tally
Concluding the third competition day of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32) on May 8, Vietnam won additional 15 gold medals to climb to the second position in the medal table with 30 gold, 28 silver, and 36 bronze medals.
 
2 Bac Giang athletes bag medals at SEA Games 32
(BGO)- On May 7 morning, athlete Pham Tien San (born in Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province) competed at duathlon event (combining running and cycling) in the 32nd SEA Games. He successfully defended the gold medal.
