Tan Yen promotes heritage value in combination with tourism development

(BGO) - Tan Yen district (Bac Giang province) has long historical, cultural and revolutionary traditions, with many historical relic sites and landscapes. With these advantages, the district has been focusing resources to promote heritage value and tourism development.

Great potential

Lien Chung and Viet Lap communes boast Danh mountain landscape covering an area of 105 hectares, including a system of architectural works: Trinh Temple, Thuong Temple and Ha Temple, surrounded by pine forests. This is a bright spot in the district’s tourism development picture.

The Danh Temple Festival is held on the 19th and 20th days of the first lunar month annually with a procession of the gods from Vuong Communal House to Danh Temple in Lien Chung commune. In 2006, the temple was recognised as a provincial cultural and historical relic site.

Thuong Temple, part of the complex, has just been rebuilt at a cost of over 5.2 billion VND (224,630 USD) from social sources. The total construction area is nearly 600sq.m (4 times higher than before).

Nguyen Tien Khuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Lien Chung commune, said that along with Danh Temple, Vuong Communal House, a national relic site, is also a place that can welcome visitors if it is upgraded.

In Lien Chung commune, for many generations, locals have maintained the performance of hat vi-hat ong (a form of traditional folk singing) - a valuable intangible heritage. Currently, the communal hat vi-hat ong club has 31 members.

Coming here, visitors also enjoy the local products, such as: Danh mountain ginseng – a precious ginseng ever offered to the kings under the Nguyen Dynasty, grilled spring rolls and purple onion that are known by many visitors.

Tan Yen district is also home to many other landscapes, such as Dot mountain in Phuc Son commune, Ong rock lake in Lan Gioi commune and a dense system of historical and cultural relics with 429 relics of all kinds; including 95 ranked relics, 12 historical and cultural relics within the complex of special national relics related to the Yen The Uprising, five national relic sites and many others with unique ancient architecture and high artistic value such as Vuong Communal House in Lien Chung commune; Phuc Chan Duong Tomb in Viet Lap commune; Cao Thuong Temple in Cao Thuong township; Kim Trang Pagoda in Viet Lap commune.

Mobilizing resources

In order to promote the value of cultural heritages in association with tourism development, over the past time, the Tan Yen district People's Committee has planned to boost socio-economic development in combination with preserving and upholding the value of cultural heritages, and promoting tourism development in the locality.

In the 2016-2020 period, the whole district repaired 32 relic sites with a total investment of nearly 30 billion VND (nearly 1.3 million USD), mainly from social sources. The district People's Committee instructed Lien Chung commune to restore Danh Temple, making it a key tourist area of the district.

In order to create a link between tourist attractions, the district People's Committee has cooperated with the provincial police and relevant agencies to advise the Ministry of Public Security to complete the construction of a memorial site of Uncle Ho’s six teachings for the People's Public Security force in Nha Nam township with a total investment of nearly 100 billion VND (4.32 million USD).

The district has developed a number of spiritual, ecological, historical and cultural tourism routes in collaboration with the districts of Luc Nam, Yen Dung, Viet Yen and the Bac Giang provincial Museum.

Nguyen Quang Luong, Vice Chairman of the district People's Committee, said that the district is focusing on stepping up promotion activities and planning to ensure tourism connectivity. It is building a number of key projects such as: Resistance Culture Hill, Danh Temple, Tu Giap Pagoda and Statue of Luong Van Nam.

On the other hand, the district People's Committee is actively calling on investment and mobilizing capital for tourism development projects in the locality; promoting mobilization of social sources for building facilities serving tourism activities; restoring and maintaining art performances and folk games in festivals; and periodically organizing singing festivals and contests, and cultural exchanges.
