Countries waive quarantine for Vietnamese travelers

Thailand, Russia, France and Maldives are among a handful of countries to have waived mandatory quarantine for travelers from Vietnam.

The Thai government announced it would exempt quarantine for tourists from 17 more countries and territories, including Vietnam from Monday as part of its tourism reopening policy.

With the latest additions, the total number of countries eligible for quarantine-free entry into Thailand has increased to 63, Bangkok Post reported.

On Oct. 21, Thailand announced it would allow fully-vaccinated travelers from 46 low-risk countries and territories to enter the country without quarantine from Nov. 1.

The Russian government has also listed Vietnam among 48 countries and territories whose visitors are exempt from 14-day quarantine.

Vietnamese tourists must furnish a negative PCR test for Covid no older than 72 hours before arrival. They are required to wear a mask in public, including on public transport and in malls.

Maldives only requires visitors from Vietnam to present a negative PCR test done within 96 hours before departure.

Vietnam is classified orange by France, which means vaccinated visitors no longer need to quarantine. They however need to furnish a negative PCR test no older than 72 hours or a negative antigen test no older than 48 hours.

Vietnam is among more than 135 countries and territories whose full Covid vaccination certificates, often called vaccine passports, are recognized by the U.K. government, according to an updated list by British authorities last week.

Fully vaccinated people must undergo a coronavirus test within two days after entry and are subject to quarantine only when testing positive.

Fully-vaccinated Vietnamese citizens are also exempted from quarantine upon arriving in Greece, Afghanistan, Albania, Armenia, Brazil, Botswana, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Belize, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Ecuador, Egypt, Finland, Georgia, Moldova and Montenegro.

From Nov. 8, Vietnamese tourists are allowed to enter the U.S. but must furnish a certificate proving they had been fully vaccinated and present a negative test result obtained within 72 hours. Although not mandatory, the American government still encourages people to self-isolate for 7-10 days upon arrival.

Costa Rica, Colombia, Dominican Republic and Mexico have fully reopened to all tourists and do not require full vaccination status and negative test results.

However, travelers can be randomly tested for the coronavirus upon arriving at airports or self-quarantine for 14 days if not tested.

More than 24.6 million people in Vietnam have been fully vaccinated.

Earlier, several countries banned or imposed strict quarantine measures for travelers from Vietnam as the Southeast Asian country grappled with its most challenging outbreak triggered by the Delta variant.
