Hoi An among South Koreans' favorite cycling destinations

Ancient town Hoi An, famous for pedestrian-friendly streets, was one of seven most favored biking destinations by South Korean visitors, Korea Times reported citing online travel agency Booking.com.

"A good way to explore Hoi An is to pedal around slowly, and therefore it is easy to spot bike rental shops around the city. Many hotels also offer free bike rental services," the South Korean newspaper reported.

Foreign tourists ride bicycles on Pham Hong Thai Street, Hoi An, 2020.

Located around 30 minutes from tourist city Da Nang, one of the hottest travel destinations among Koreans, Hoi An used to be a busy international commercial port from the 16th to 19th centuries, as merchant ships from many different countries passed by there.

Now Hoi An has managed to preserve its tranquility and slow pace of life.

Since 2004, the ancient town has pioneered pedestrian-friendly streets, with most hotels, restaurants and homestay facilities offering bike rental services.

Motorbikes and cars are banned from the town center for large parts of the day – from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., making bicycles the most ideal choice for foreigners to explore the town.

The following cycling destinations most favored by South Korean travelers include Kyoto in Japan, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Jeju and Gyeongju in South Korea, Kaohsiung in Taiwan

and Gili Trawangan in Indonesia.

South Koreans were Vietnam's second biggest tourism market with a record high number of 4.3 million in 2019.
