Condé Nast Traveler: Con Dao among the world’s best island vacations

Con Dao Island in Vietnam ranked first in the list of the 16 best island vacations in the world in 2023, by the US-based magazine Condé Nast Traveler (CNTraveler).

CNTraveler’s listings are based on the reviews of travel experts and editors.

According to CNTraveler, located off the Southern Coast of Vietnam, Con Dao is a smaller island with very little commercial development. The island possesses quiet and long beaches with soft sand. The beaches are great for light water sports like SUP and kayaking – but are just a short kayak away from a beautiful reef for snorkelling.

The downtown area has a cute seaside atmosphere with little restaurants. For those who are interested in exploring history, Con Dao Prison is a destination not to be missed.

CNTraveler especially recommended watching the turtles hatch. “On the neighbouring island, you can head over at night and stay at the ranger station, where you will be informed when they spot a mother turtle laying her eggs”, noted the magazine.

Other best island vacations in the world are Lanai of Hawaii, Mauritius, Mallorca of Spain, Koh Samui of Thailand, Vancouver Island of Canada, Zanzibar of Tanzania, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India, Nevis, Tikehau, French Polynesia, the Galápagos Islands of Ecuador, Vega Island of Norway, Big Island of Hawaii, Lord Howe Island, Australia, Dominica, and Crete of Greece.

Con Dao has also been listed among 27 of the best honeymoon destinations for 2023 by CNTraveler.
