BAC GIANG - Although he was born in a poor farmers’ family with his unfinished study, Nguyen Van Sy (born in 1975) in To village, Nghia Phuong commune, Luc Nam district, Bac Giang province has overcome difficulties to get rich with concrete spacer production.
When working as a contractor of construction projects in 2007, Sy saw workers use pieces of brick or make use of surrounding materials to line steel for concreting. He found it take time and unsafe.

Then, he spent time studying and realized that people used concrete spacer for big projects to fix the steel floor system in the right position and protect the steel reinforcement for more durable construction.
After the market survey, he found that this type of material had not been produced in the province. Seizing the opportunity, he decided to invest with manual work at the beginning due to limited capital. The first concrete spacers were produced in late 2016 with a productivity of about 1,500 pellets per day creating jobs for 4 labours.
It was good that all products were sold out right after production, thus he decided to invest over 10 billion VND (418,000 USD) to purchase modern equipment and expand the production scale.
Currently, his facility produces 300,000 concrete spacers per day sold at a price of over 100,000 VND (4.2 USD) for each box. The number of concrete spacers in each box depends on their sizes. The product has been widely supplied to the northern provinces and cities and some middle provinces with the brand “Sy Bay concrete spacer”. The facility creates job for more than 50 local labours at an average salary from 7 to 8 million VND (292 to 334 USD) per month.
“I am working at Sy’s facility. My job is time flexible with stable income, hence I feel very comfortable”, said Luu Thi Hoa in To village.
Sy not only enriches himself but he also actively shares experience, helps needy households and takes part in social activities especially activities of the farmers’ association. His family has won the title of excellent producer and business at the provincial level for many years and the central-level title in recent 2 years. Besides, Nguyen Van Sy is the head of the “Good production and business club” of Nghia Phuong commune.
