Bac Giang man voluntarily drives over 1,700km to Dong Thap to help fight pandemic

(BGO) - Tran Quang Han (born in 1981) residing in Than Phu residential area, Doi Ngo township (Luc Nam district) voluntarily drove an ambulance to join hands with frontline forces and people of Dong Thap province in the fight against Covid-19.

From Cao Lanh city (Dong Thap), Han said “During the past outbreak, I often drove my family's ambulance to serve epidemic prevention and control in Luc Nam district. Now the pandemic in my homeland has been controlled, but it is developing complicatedly in southern provinces.

“I think I have good health, a specialized vehicle, some experience in fighting the pandemic and enthusiasm, so I just wish to contribute part of my efforts to help the people of the South to soon repel Covid-19 and return to a peaceful life”.

Watching the media, Han knew that Bac Giang province had sent a delegation of medical workers to the South to combat the epidemic, so he proposed relevant agencies of Bac Giang province, Luc Nam district and Dong Thap province allow him to drive the ambulance to the South to serve the working delegations free of charge. After 4-5 days of waiting, at 19:30 on July 16, the phone rang, he received a phone call from Nguyen Van Duan, head of the working delegation of Bac Giang province in Dong Thap, informing that his wish to come to the South to support the pandemic combat was approved.

Han quickly prepared personal belongings, bid farewell to his wife and children, and went to the provincial Department of Health the next morning to complete procedures to leave for the South. On this ambulance trip, Han also carried a lot of medical supplies sent by the provincial Department of Health and the Medical Center of Luc Nam district to the compatriots in the South.

Previously, Han had never set foot in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Thap or other southern localities, so during this trip he had to explore the route using Google map. After 3 days and 2 nights of driving a distance of more than 1,700 km, eating instant noodles along the way, and resting right in the ambulance, at over 3pm on July 19, he arrived in Cao Lanh city.

Here, driver Tran Quang Han was welcomed by leaders of the health sector of Dong Thap province, and arranged to stay with the working delegation of Bac Giang province. He was in charge of transporting officials on duty and carrying samples for testing.

"The epidemic here is very complicated, so I determined that my working trip will only end when the pandemic is over and Bac Giang’s medical delegation completes their task," Han said.

In the locality, Han's family is not rich. His wife works as a farmer while he serves as an ambulance driver. They have three children, all well-behaved and good at learning. The eldest daughter currently studies at the Hanoi National University, the second son is a student of the Luc Nam High School, and the third learns at a local primary school. The family is always a solid fulcrum for him to feel secure to leave for the pandemic fight.
