The foreign ministry is working to bring back the remains of the victims of a recent car accident in China, the ministry said Thursday.

"Regarding the traffic accident in Jingxi City that killed 11 people and injured two on May 19, the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the General Consulate of Vietnam in Nanning have cooperated with local authorities, and have instructed and helped the families of the victims perform procedures to bring their loved ones' remains back to Vietnam," deputy spokesman of the foreign ministry Nguyen Duc Thang said at a press conference.

Thang said the ministry is also helping bring back home two Vietnamese citizens injured in the accident.

A seven-seat car fell off a cliff in a mountainous area of China's Siming Village, about 5-6 km from the Vietnam border, on May 19. It was carrying twice the number of people than it was supposed to.

The accident killed 11 people, leaving three survivors, including the Chinese driver. All the 11 killed were Vietnamese, Chinese authorities said.

The health of the two Vietnamese injured in the incident is currently stable.
