Vietnamese grilled bananas among world’s most delicious desserts

CNN has put Vietnam’s grilled bananas on its list of best desserts in the world, calling it a “must-try.”

"It is crispy, smoky and fragrant, and best enjoyed with a lightly sweetened creamy coconut sauce and roasted peanuts," CNN wrote. "If you are new to Vietnamese snacks or desserts, this banana treat is a must-try. Visiting Vietnam? It can be easily found at street vendors."

Grilled banana is a famous snack from the Mekong Delta that can be found in many of Vietnam’s southern provinces. The peeled banana is marinated with sugar and salted coffee for 30 minutes. Glutenous rice is mixed with coconut cream, steamed and then wrapped around the banana. Before going on the grill, it’s wrapped with a layer of banana leaf.

Culinary Journeys, a food program that airs monthly on CNN International, compiled the list. The program aims to introduce viewers to the best dishes in the world. People can also promote their own dishes by uploading images to Instagram at the hashtag #CNNfood. CNN’s culinary experts then choose dishes to showcase on the program.

Other notable desserts on the list included blonde brownies from Qatar, Kenyan cheesecake and Sandesh in India.
